Position Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for controls design, instrumentation, system design, component selection, component programming, layouts and documentation. This position is responsible for field evaluations, system integration, testing, and product start-up. The Controls Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and will be successful in performing design engineering and field start up responsibilities for System Integration in the Electrical Controls Industry. 

Responsibilities

Duties Include

Essential Functions:

  • Works with electrical design; programming and field startup of the system if required
  • Provides detailed industrial control system drawings; factory test panels for proper functionality
  • Writes, enters, and documents PLC programs
  • Writes, enters and documents HMI programs
  • Performs field debug and test (start-up/stand-by) control systems
  • Utilizes various PLC ladder logic and HMI programming systems
  • Ensures the quality of goods and services to both internal and external customers
  • System Architecture including non-standard material and control panel power requirements/distribution
  • Reviews specifications and standard practices – inclusive of the internal hardwired and logic standards, general specifications, and scope of work
  • Designs requirements which include establishing non-standard designs, working with internal mechanical engineers to develop the controls sequence of operations and operational requirements
  • Assists with and/or guides controls installation
  • All other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Possess a working knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Demonstrate an ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage compliance issues (OHSA, MSHA, First Aid/CPR, PPE, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license
  • Must have a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to follow instruction and guidance
  • High school diploma
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position
  • Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

 Preferred:

  • Agricultural, Food and Cotton Experience preferred
  • GE, Siemens, Pilz PLC, or robotics experience a plus
  • Prior experience in conveyance, material handling and packaging or related industries preferred
