Position Description

Journeyman electricians are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems. As a journeyman electrician, you will be asked to complete a wide variety of tasks. You should be able to perform inspections and conduct assessments of electrical systems. You should also be able to read blueprints and interpret them in order to determine the best way to resolve the problems in an electrical system. To accomplish all of this, you will need to have a deep familiarity with wiring, commonly-used electrical tools, and various components.


Duties Include

Essential Functions:

  • Reports directly to the job-site Foreman, Superintendent or Project Manager depending on the job
  • Provides detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record keeping, billing and inventory
  • Requests the proper tools and materials needed
  • Maintains company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a professional and workman-like manner
  • Directs and trains apprentices to install, maintain, or repair electrical and control systems
  • Installs electrical equipment, fans/blowers, motors, generators, MCCC’s, Distribution Equipment, Transformers, UPS Systems and the like
  • Inspects electrical and control systems, to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Troubleshoots electrical and control systems using the test meters and equipment to ensure a functioning system, compatibility, and safety
  • Plans the layout and installation of electrical and control wiring based on blueprints, schematics, job specifications and local codes
  • Uses a variety of power and hand tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and roofs
  • Performs physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects
  • Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services as needed
  • Assists in other areas of the company and perform other duties as assigned


What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Must be a licensed Journeyman
  • Five (5) years previous experience
  • Possess a working knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Demonstrate an ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage compliance issues (OHSA, MSHA, First Aid/CPR, PPE, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license
  • Must have a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to follow instruction and guidance
  • High school diploma
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position
  • Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
