Position Description

An apprentice electrician is an entry-level electrical trainee enrolled in an apprenticeship program to learn the concepts and skills necessary to become a certified electrician. As an apprentice, an electrician will receive a combination of classroom education and paid on the job experience across a wide array of electrical systems.


Duties Include

Essential Functions:

  • Reports directly to Journeyman or Job Lead
  • Assists a journeyman electrician and follows instructions
  • Prepares and cleans work areas
  • Carries and delivers materials
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains various electrical wiring systems and equipment
  • Uses measuring equipment and hand tools to perform conduit work
  • Follows safety codes and building regulations
  • Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Maintains tools, vehicles, and equipment and keeps parts and supplies in order
  • Performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment
  • Disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment, using hand tools
  • Digs trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supports
  • Traces out short circuits in wiring, using test meter
  • Erects electrical system components and barricades, and rigs scaffolds, hoists, and shoring
  • Transports tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, hand-truck, or heavy, motorized truck
  • Constructs controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws and punches

  • Demonstrate an ability to problem solve
  • Must have a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to follow instruction and guidance
  • High school diploma
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position
  • Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
